Refrigerated Compressed Air Treatment

Refrigerated Air Dryers

A refrigerated air dryer cools compressed air so water vapor condenses and can be removed, helping protect downstream equipment from liquid water. Compare Okair's dryer series by airflow, pressure, temperature and required pressure dew point to find a match for your air compressor system.

Select a Dryer for Your Operating Conditions

01

Set the Required Pressure Dew Point

Use the equipment or process specification to set the maximum permitted pressure dew point (PDP). Select a dryer that meets this limit and keeps the PDP below the coldest downstream pipe temperature.

Compare refrigerated dryers by the PDP they deliver at your operating pressure, inlet temperature and ambient temperature. For subzero dew point requirements, see our compressed air dryer guide.

02

Size for Peak Flow and Site Conditions

Size for the peak airflow passing through the dryer, using the same flow reference conditions as the dryer rating. For a dryer downstream of an air receiver, include demand surges supplied by that receiver.

Use the manufacturer's sizing data to establish capacity at your lowest normal inlet pressure and highest inlet and ambient temperatures. Higher temperatures and lower inlet pressure reduce drying capacity. Choose a model whose capacity at these conditions meets or exceeds the peak flow while delivering the required PDP.

03

Check Installation and Operating Costs

Select a pressure rating at least equal to the system's maximum operating pressure. Match the voltage, phase and frequency to the site supply. Provide ventilation, access for cleaning and service, and a working condensate drain.

Compare dryer power consumption at normal and reduced loads, pressure drop at the required flow, and drain and filter maintenance costs. Include the pressure drop across both the dryer and filters when checking the pressure available to downstream equipment.

Moisture Removal, Step by Step

How Refrigerated Air Dryers Work

A refrigeration circuit cools the compressed air, turning some of its water vapor into liquid. The dryer then separates and drains that condensate before the air continues downstream.

Cool

Lower the air temperature so water vapor condenses.

Separate

Remove condensed liquid water from the air stream.

Drain

Discharge the collected water from the dryer.

Drying addresses moisture. Oil, particles and other air quality requirements need their own treatment specification and suitable filtration.

Refrigerated Air Dryer FAQs

A non-cycling dryer keeps its refrigeration compressor running while regulating cooling. A cycling design can stop and restart refrigeration as demand changes, often using stored cooling. The useful comparison is power consumption at your actual load, alongside the required dew point. Ask us to confirm the control configuration of the model being quoted.

The listed standard models use 50 Hz power, with voltage depending on the series and model. Okair supports voltage and frequency customization. Send your voltage, phase and frequency, including any 60 Hz requirement, so we can confirm a suitable configuration before you order.

A quote depends on the model and configuration needed for your airflow, pressure, temperatures and target dew point. Quantity, customization and delivery destination also help define the quotation. Send those details with your inquiry so we can price equipment suited to your project.

Confirm the selected model’s ventilation and access requirements, allowable site temperatures, drainage, power supply and pipe connections before installation. Request its installation and maintenance instructions, and follow the specified checks and service intervals. For maintenance support, include the model and any displayed alarm information with your inquiry.
